DMHSAEA Receives Transformational Philanthropic Gift
Gerry Schwartz (left) of the Class of 1973 has donated $250,000 to the DMHSAEA to form a permanent endowment. Its investment income will provide a permanent source of funds for part of our mission program. Gerry was the founder and until his retirement last year, CEO of The TEAM Companies in Los Angeles. In the photo above, Gerry receives an Alumni Recognition Award at the annual DMHSAEA Alumni Barbecue on June 23, 2018. Presenting the award is Bruce Harper, Gerry's DMHS classmate, DMHSAEA volunteer and former NY Jets star.
Major Donation Supports Classical Music
An anonymous donor has created a special $20,000 fund dedicated to enhancing the experience of DMHS students in classical music. The fund will be used to purchase student tickets to two New Jersey Symphony Orchestra concerts each year at the John Harms Theater in Englewood. There is no limit to the number of students who may attend each concert. The donor stipulated that before each concert, a seminar must be provided to the students by a professional musician discussing the music to be performed. The donor also stipulated that the fund be named The Cynthia and Al Golbe Endowment after friends of the donor who supported music and art in Englewood for many years.
Our Second Web Address
This Website is now accessible via a new URL: www.dmhsalumni.org.
The existing URL, www.dmhsaea.org, still works but we felt we needed another option that's more intuitive and easier to remember. (Careful: Another site, www.dmhsalumni.com, is operated by alumni of Daniel Murphy High School in Los Angeles.)
Our Next Board Meeting
Our Board's next meeting will be on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 10:00 AM at the Englewood Public Library, Room 2, on the basement level. All alumni are welcome to join us to share ideas and energy. Please let us know if you're coming (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Our New Web Forums
At the end of the menu above is a link to our new forums page ("Alumni Forums"). Let's hear from you!
The 2018 Alumni Barbecue
The annual Alumni Barbecue was held on June 23, 2018 and was a success despite the uncertain weather. About 200 attended. As always the free food, the DJ and the memorabilia displays were enjoyed by all. This year's honoree was Gerry Schwartz of the Class of 1973, a major benefactor (see news item above).
