NJ Symphony Woodwind Quintet Performs at DMHS
Professional chamber music has returned to DMHS! On January 10, 2023 a woodwind quintet from the NJ Symphony gave a one-hour concert of classical works in the band room attended by fifty students taking music electives. Before each of the five pieces, one of the musicians gave an introduction to the music and its composer, demonstrated their instrument and discussed something of their own career path. There was time for Q&A and for informal chats with the musicians.
A string quartet and a brass quintet have also performed at DMHS over the past two years, and DMHS has provided tickets to NJ Symphony concerts at the BergenPAC and at New Brunswick's State Theater, all courtesy of an endowment called the "DMHS Symphony Concert Fund," which was created by a generous, anonymous donor in 2017. In implementing the endowment's aims, the DMHSAEA works closely with music teacher Dr. Gary Hollander.

DMHSAEA 2022 In-Person Barbecue is a Success!
On Saturday, June 25, the DMHSAEA held its annual BBQ/fundraiser live for the first time since 2019. About 300 people enjoyed the free lunch and the music of DJ Chock. The sky was sunny and the crowd had fun in the air-conditioned high school cafeteria, a large tent provided for the occasion on the lawn, and the open air of the our beautiful campus.
New Jersey Symphony and DMHSAEA Team Up

Thanks to a generous, anonymous, 2018 donation, the DMHSAEA funds tickets for
students to attend New Jersey Symphony performances. The original object was the NJS performances at Englewood's BergenPAC. That took place three times before the Covid shutdown from early 2020 to mid-2021. As of September 2021, the NJS no longer performs at the Englewood venue.
So the DMHSAEA brought the NJS to DMHS!
On April 25, 2022, a brass quintet from the NJS came to the school's Dizzy Gillespie Auditorium at DMHS to perform selections ranging from Baroque to Ragtime. Per the donor's stipulation, one of the musicians gave an interactive lesson to introduce each piece.
The same DMHSAEA ticket fund supported a group of 76 DMHS students to attend the NJ Symphony's performance on May 12, 2022 at the State Theater in New Brunswick. The original Star Wars movie ("Episode 4: A New Hope") was shown without the musical track, which was performed live by the full orchestra. John Williams' score is a modern classic and for many students, this was be their first, and we hope not their last, exposure to a live symphony orchestra.

This Website is now accessible via a new URL: www.dmhsalumni.org.
The existing URL, www.dmhsaea.org, still works but we felt we needed another option that's more intuitive and easier to remember. (Careful: Another site, www.dmhsalumni.com, is operated by alumni of Daniel Murphy High School in Los Angeles.)
